 Verified A Special Place with Incredible People — We Left Feeling Like Family
Hacienda La Norma is truly something special. As others have shared, it’s a place where you’re welcomed with open arms, everyone knows your name, and you don’t want to leave. We spent 9 nights in Costa Rica and 4 of them were here—and I slept better at this resort than anywhere else on our trip. The beds are amazing, and the Wi-Fi was the best we had anywhere in Costa Rica. The property is small and intimate (around 15 rooms), and many times it felt like we had the place to ourselves. It’s right off the road yet still peaceful and tucked away (watch for the small sign and the monkey gates—we drove past it at first!). One of the highlights was waking up to howler monkeys, who live on the property and visited almost every morning. We rented a car, which we recommend, as restaurants and beaches aren’t walkable. That said, almost everything you need is here. Breakfast is included daily, dinners are available, parking is free onsite, and the pool is beautiful and impeccably maintained. We did venture out for lunch and beach days. Many of the adventures are directly across the road, including ziplining, ATV rides, and horseback riding. The zipline course is unbelievable—just do it. The guides, Pablo and Jose, were wonderful. The horseback ride with Wilmar was unforgettable; even without speaking English, his warmth and the calm, well-trained horses made it a really special experience. What truly sets Hacienda La Norma apart are the people. Greivin, the owner, is incredibly kind and welcoming, and you can feel how much heart he puts into this place. Alan, the bartender, was friendly, attentive, and a joy to talk to. Greivin’s son and daughter also work at the resort and go out of their way to make you feel included and at home. The staff was constantly cleaning, maintaining the property, and checking in to make sure we were comfortable. A quick note for travelers: the rooms are intentionally simple and peaceful—no TVs, refrigerators, or hairdryers in the rooms, though these are available on the property if needed. For us, it added to the calm, unplugged experience. We arrived as guests and left feeling like family. If you’re looking for a peaceful, beautiful place with exceptional people, Hacienda La Norma is it.

The hotel was stunning and immersed in nature! I stayed in a family room it was perfect for a family and my brother and his girlfriend stayed in a couple room with an outdoor shower…It was luxurious as well! We did all of our excursions on property like riding horses in the morning and going to a waterfall on property, everyone enjoyed it. Everything was on property even a restaurant, bar and pool, if we ventured out the town was not too far away. Just watch out too see all the monkey!

Un lugar maravilloso, la comodidad de las habitaciones y sus camas son espectaculares, los espacios para disfrutar dentro de las instalaciones son muy cálidas con mucha naturaleza a su alrededor, tener la flora y fauna a tu lado en todo momento es espectacular y ni que hablar de la comida del lugar, el desayuno estuvo exquisito y los platos del restaurante son increíbles, además de poder disfrutar de los tours en la hacienda. una experiencia COMPLETA y de la mejor calidad.

Words can’t describe the beauty & majestic feel of Hacienda Norma. The entire staff starting from Don Greivin & his family, to all their employees, embody the Costa Rican and Latino culture of welcoming their guests like family. The rooms & grounds were immaculate, the food was delicious and all their services were top notch. The Family Room was perfect in providing comfort and space for our family of 4 (teenage daughters approved 😁). The close proximity to the beaches gave us the best of both worlds: morning surf sessions followed by sunset horse back rides on the Hacienda’s ranch. It’s a great location to relax pool side while at the same time, taking part in their various activities. Don’t miss the bonsai garden and keep your eyes open for the monkeys! We felt lucky and very grateful to find this gem. We look forward to our next visit.
